Anthology of American Classics was a book published
by the Westvaco Paper company originally designed by Bradbury Thompson in 1982. As a portion of Richard Mehl's Advanced type class we were asked to reformat and reproduce three sections from the original
volume. Those sections being, Benjamin Franklin's Early to Bed Early To Rise Makes a Man Healthy Wealthy
and Wise 1706 - 1790, Edgar Allen Poe's The Black Cat,
and American Cookery one of the first cookbooks published in America. I used wood type from Rob Roy Kelly's book American Wood Type 1828-1900 as
a unifying design element. All illustrations for the Edgar Allen Poe Section were done by myself and relate to the paragraph set on the right. With the exception of page 35, which I sourced from the CSA images catalog.
